Dougie Crawford 2010 Season Reflection

Dougie Crawford training run for the Wengen world cup race 2010

The 2010 season was my toughest yet. The summer was full of uncertainty with the team on the verge of financial ruin before seeming to be all sorted and getting to race all the speed world cups before Christmas including the “Birds of Prey” course in Beaver Creek and the “Saslong” in Val Gardena. I had some great sections and nearly some great results but not quite.

After Christmas I did mostly the Europa Cup circuit and had some decent results but in the end I wasn’t picked to go to Vancouver, a massive disappointment! As if this hammer blow wasn’t enough Snowsport GB the governing body of British racing finally fell apart and we were left with no coaches and no support.

February and the start of March were incredibly tough, TJ and I employed a coach privately for a few weeks which worked out but we both quickly ran low on money and ended up on our own for the national champs. As time wore on my performances got worse as the season took its toll on me.

However I took a week off before the Brits and came back strongly! I managed to win 4 of the 5 events at the British and even the Victor Ludorum, awarded to the top skier male or female for the week. The first time a man has one in 10 years! A great end to a difficult season and only the Scottish champs remaining.
