Yes, thank you, I would like a private heli-pad with my ski chalet. Of course we all would, especially the over excited powder hounds among us. Well at Bighorn, the ultimate ski lodge in one of the worlds powder capitals, there is one. Now why would I lead with this? Well, because not many ski chalets can say they have a heli-pad – I mean that’s taking ski-in/ski-out to a whole new level.
Bighorn is the premier chalet of Revelstoke. Revelstoke is a rare resort in that it offers lift skiing, heli-skiing, cat-skiing and back-country skiing all from the village base (and Bighorn’s location allows access to all very swiftly.) The chalet itself combines the best of being an adventure lodge and a five-star residence – so whether you’re a group of avid skiers or you prefer the idea of bubbling away in a hot tub with Champagne, the chalet will cater to your desires.
An ideal day at Bighorn for many will consist of waking up in one of the enormous super king size beds and enjoying a full Canadian breakfast prepared by the chalet’s private chef. Then you’ll most likely head to the ski room and get suited and booted for a day out on the slopes. The helicopter and guides will be waiting just outside and you’ll fly up into the heart of the world’s best heliskiing terrain to ski deep powder bowls, glaciers and through the trees.
Once you’ve tired yourself out in the knee to chest deep powder, you can head back to the lodge and take a dip in the hot-tub before kicking back with a movie in the cinema or relaxing in the private spa (perhaps with a treatment or two). Then it’s on to enjoying cocktails prior to a four course evening meal, after which guests usually shoot some pool and sit around the bar sharing stories from the day.
Personally I like the description of the chalet written by Christopher Salomon for Made Man magazine: “Bighorn is a mash-up of two capital ideas: the “catered chalet” of the Alps and BC’s greatest gift to the world – heli-skiing in big, snow-choked mountains.” It’s pretty simple really.
Bighorn is available to rent exclusively for groups of up to sixteen guests from just over 4,000 Canadian dollars per person per week. You can read about the full list of services and facilities at Bighorn here.
