A look inside: Chalet Royal

July 5, 2012 by Oli Corkhill

The classic spa town of St Gervais, with its beautiful stone buildings and a rustic funicular, first became famous back in the 19th century. The resort shares a lift system with Megève, providing access to over four hundred and fifty kilometres of varied ski terrain, with plenty more just a short hop away in the car to the nearby Chamonix Valley. All this makes St Gervais a top choice for families and groups, especially those with mixed ability levels, as there is something for everyone (including those who’d rather stay slope-side.)

Chalet Royal is a five-minute car ride away from central St Gervais and has impressive views onto the backside of Mont Blanc. The emphasis here is on service and guest experience.

The chalet is operated by the Isle of Wight’s Royal Hotel which is four star rated and the chalet is run to similarly high standards. The service is swift and effortless as one would expect from a professionally trained team (they’ve all worked in the hotel.) This creates an ideal blend between privacy and relaxation in a homely setting and hotel-like services. Previous guests have described the food as “…inspirational” and have gone as far to say “Literally nothing was too much trouble.”

The chalet has five bedrooms, four of which are en-suite and the fifth with a private bathroom. As you can see the bedrooms are of a generous size and can all be configured as either doubles or twins. They’re all kitted out with designer throws, warm and cosy textiles and roomy wardrobes.

To top it all off Royal has a sauna and and a private outdoor hot-tub that overlooks Mont Blanc and the valley.

Be sure to check out some other chalets in nearby Chamonix and Megeve.
