Nissan Xtreme in Verbier
Friday, December 17th, 2010Curling the stone lands with Zermatt
Saturday, December 11th, 2010January 13th sees the 4 day Horu Curling Trophy event head to Zermatt, Switzerland. Now curling isn’t an expert area of mine but it seems that Great Britain is quite fond of it. Funding for the sport has increased ahead of the next winter Olympics taking place in Sochi, Russia in 2014.

If the event sounds like something that could sway you towards a luxury ski holiday this January then look no further because the elegant Chalet Les Anges is available from Sunday 9th through till Sunday 16th January 2011. Sleeping up to 14 guests it’s one of Zermatt’s most renowned luxury properties and won’t disappoint.

Chalet Les Anges is 57,080 CHF for the week commencing 9th January 2011.
Hitch Hikers Guide to Ski Resorts: 42
Thursday, December 9th, 2010When writing the title of this article the intention was to write 42 points, but that’s quite a lot – so I’m going to do 6.
Ski resorts are, for the most part, pretty darn expensive – so these 6 ‘hitch hikers’ tips should help you to make your sterling go a little further whether you’re in our out of the euro zone abroad. These tips apply to everyone from those who are looking for a budget ski holiday through to those seeking luxury chalets too.

1. Head East
Take a package to Bulgaria or Poland – these places have some killer deals that will really save the pennies.
2. Avoid High Season
Go in the low season – if you haven’t got school time tables to adhere to then why not head out to the mountains at the end of January or in early February – the pistes are quiet and hotels will always throw together some great deals to get you out there. Actually, even if you’ve got kids – missing one week of school won’t hurt, will it?
3. Take a Chalet
Chalet options can often be cheaper than hotels, especially if you can bundle a large group together – so if you’ve got a massive family and loads of friends then this could be a good option. You can always meet like minded travellers in the ski forums too and get a mutual trip organised.
4. Economy of Scale
Group lessons and ski courses can be a great option for those trying to save cash, and you’ll be able to make some friends along the way.
5. Stay out of Resort
Stay down the valley – you can always stay below the actual resort and travel up early in the morning, this can often be a great way to make some savings (just don’t forget to take the last cable car or bus back down by having too much fun in the après).
6. Make Your own Lunch
Why not eat back at the chalet or take a picnic up the mountain on a few of the days, it won’t just save pennies but will also give you the flexibility to venture off the beaten track.
Please tell us your cash saving tips for the mountains in the comments box below.
Aspen Extreme: Can the dream be a reality
Friday, December 3rd, 2010Every die hard ski enthusiast has seen the epic adventure of TJ Burke and Dexter Rutecki – living the mountain dream. Years on, is life in a ski resort like this, or perhaps a better question is can it be if you make it?
We’d like all of those who live for the snow every year to give your thoughts on what life in the resorts is really like, and offer your advice to aspiring ski resort workers and instructors.
Please take a moment to share in the comment box and if you’d like to BUY the movie you can do so HERE
Epic Powder days in Verbier
Tuesday, February 9th, 2010Verbier off-piste skiing came alight at the weekend with a fresh snow fall of 30cm and more in places started a weekend to remember.
It started on the Friday and snow fell all day and into the evening with a bluebird day predicted for Saturday I knew we were in for a great few days tracking out the classic Verbier off piste.
I met my skiing partners early Saturday and we headed straight for the front side of Savolayre for two epic runs in the sunshine down to the town. We quickly followed this up with an amazing run from Creblet taking the high traverse towards Col de Mines. Fantastic. With the conditions holding out till the Monday when we squeezed in a hike to the top of Grippon Blanc and skied in perfect powder to the valley floor followed by the best tasting hot dog in the Alps before and the bus back to le Masses and working our way back to Verbier via a number of special side stashes of powder. Not forgetting Jacks abilities to find streams!
Excellent fun for all the crew, Emma TH, Amy, stream finder Jack and Babs from Beauty in Motion.
Keep an eye out for my future blogs and descriptions of classic off piste skiing in Verbier and the four Valleys.
