Altitude Futures Ski Instructor - Verbier
The courses are aimed at skiers who are competent on red runs and above. This course is a 9 or 10-week program, and is primarily a practical on-snow course with evening lectures covering various teaching, technical and safety topics. Coaching is Monday to Friday with the weekends generally free, though this may occasionally change due to weather conditions.
There will be a maximum of 10 people per group and each person will have their own experienced and dedicated mentor. The mentor will assess each person on an individual basis and construct a personal development program to include:
- The Fundamental Elements of Skiing or Snowboarding
- High-Performance Skiing or Snowboarding
- Teaching Tools & Techniques
- Use of Video Analysis
- Mountain Safety
- Practical Teaching Experience
- Customer Care
- Apres-Ski
Weekly Breakdown:
1: Resort orientation and team building, assessment of your skiing/boarding and creation of an action plan for your development throughout the course. You will also get to meet the rest of the school, find the best bars and have a chance to settle in.
2: Technical skiing/boarding development. Improve your skiing or snowboarding in all areas: piste, moguls, steeps and off piste.
3: Level 1 Instructor Course. Training of your technical skiing and introduction to teaching.
4: Individual skills development.
5: Teaching theory and development. Use of teaching tools and techniques and teaching practice.
6/7: Practical teaching and ski/board school experience. Work with instructors from a local ski/snowboard school.
8: Pre-assessment preparation. Final training before the level 2 exam. Tailored to each individual.
9/10: BASI or CSIA level 2 Ski / Snowboard Instructor Training Course. The final exam.
On successful completion of the course, you will have gained your level 1 and 2 ski or snowboard instructor qualification. In Verbier and Tignes, students will qualify through the BASI system (British Association of Snowsport Instructors). In Whistler it will be through the Canadian System CSIA (Canadian Ski Instructors Association).
The BASI and CSIA qualifications are recognised worldwide and allow you to teach in a whole host of countries including: America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Austria and Italy.
