Full Description

Welcoming its first guests back in April 2011 the Backstage Hotel Vernissage is a relative newcomer on the alpine hotel scene. But with of one of the Alps’ most famous architects and designers behind the project it’s clear to see how the hotel has quickly become one of the most renowned in Zermatt.

Heinz Julen is known for designing some of the most fantastic and striking chalets and penthouses in the mountains and in particular in his home town of Zermatt. Together with his wife Evelyne who runs the hotel he set out to create a unique designer hotel appealing to artistic and cultural clients from around the globe. The Vernissage with its cinema/live music venue, bar and art gallery has been a top cultural centre in Zermatt for years and hosts many of the top events in town. Since the incorporation of a hotel into the building it has become even more renowned than before. The hotel and the Vernissage is the centre for the world famous Zermatt Unplugged festival and many of the artists, musicians and promoters stay in the hotel and frequent the bar and cafe during the event.

The hotel has six cube lofts with high ceilings and a floor space of forty five square metres. There are also six deluxe doubles with mountain views and freestanding baths along with seven double bedrooms. They’re all incredibly stylish and much of the furniture was designed and built by Heinz in his studio which is located near to the hotel.

The Backstage Hotel has an indoor and outdoor spa area that covers six hundred square metres. It’s a stunning wellness area where art and design meet relaxation and pampering. There’s a dark steam room with a heartbeat light, a tropical bath where you inhale aromas of essential oils and a sauna. There’s also a candle lit meditation room, a salt bath, library, treatment rooms and an outdoor hot-tub. The hotel even provides a spa guide to direct you through the various stages toward complete relaxation.
