A look inside: Chalet Janluke
An 'uncompromisingly modern' chalet from award-winning architects with views over the Rhone Valley in La Tzoumaz.
It stands to reason that when an award-winning architectural practice and an inspired designer & textile artist collaborate they’ll produce a rare and unique property. That’s exactly what’s happened at Chalet Janluke with touches of genius from Socrates Miltadou of Richard Mitzman architects and colour scheme artist Ptolemy Mann. Two ancient Greek names working together on one chalet, the end result was bound to be spectacular…
Chalet Janluke is the epitome of contemporary mountain residences and the chalet owners describe it as ‘uncompromisingly modern.’
Janluke is located in La Tzoumaz resort which forms part of the Four Valleys ski area. This diverse ski region includes access to some of the most highly reputed off-piste skiing in Switzerland with Verbier (the capital of Extreme) just an eight minute cable car ride away. For us however, La Tzoumaz is a worthy destination of its own. The scenery is stunning and Chalet Janluke takes full advantage of this with its enormous window frontage that overlooks the Rhone Valley below. The resort is ideal for families and has a ten kilometre toboggan run (surely that’s long enough.) The chalet is also just a couple of minutes to the centre of La Tzoumaz where you can find some great apres spots and fantastic Valasian restaurants.
The style inside the chalet is clean and contemporary with, similarly to the exterior, exposed concrete contrasting against warm modern colours and the sharpness of a few select pieces such as the living rooms custom rug. The living space feels open due to the double-height full length windows that provide a hundred and eighty degree panoramic frame for the mountains and forests outside. Two terraces wrap around the ground and lower ground floors of the chalet, one of which has a hot-tub. The property has a state-of-the-art tech system with wi-fi flowing throughout as well as all the usual entertainment systems that one would expect in a luxurious residence. There’s also a small spa room with sauna.
Jaluke has four en-suite bedrooms that sleep between eight to ten guests. There’s a wow-factor master-suite on the top floor of the property with a private south-facing garden, two double bedrooms and a twin room that has optional bunks. All of the bedrooms can be set up as either doubles or twins and the bathrooms are superb with huge showers and wet-floor systems.
There are two full-time staff at the chalet who prepare breakfast daily and make sure that there’s always afternoon tea on the table on guests return from the slopes. Evening meals are flexible and can be as relaxed or as glamourous as you’d like with menu consultations prior to arrival and fantastic local produce used by the professionally trained chef. You also get excellent house wines and Champagne with meals and there’s a fine wine list for those who’d prefer to go à la carte.
